A gentleman asked me why I was convinced that the KJV was THE Bible? Why I believed that it was THE standard by which all others should be judged? It is a good question.
For me personally, it’s a matter of faith.
1.
I start with the premise that God has preserved
His Word as He promised He would (Ps. 12:6-7). And
that not one jot or tittle has passed away (Mt. 5:18), and that nothing can be added or
taken away (Pro. 30:6; Deut. 4:2; Rev. 22:19). And that the Word is pure (Proverbs 30) and authoritative and that God cannot lie or make mistakes. I believe that, and so I believe that His
preserved Word (in absolute purity) exists by His supernatural preservation,
protection, and power.
2.
I believe that God wants me to have His Word in
my native language and that He has the power to translate it as such, without
losing anything (due to Him saying: A. That He would preserve it. B. That it is pure. C.
That not one jot or tittle would pass. And D. That nothing is added or
taken away).
So, believing by faith that this pure and preserved Word exists in my language,
I can now start to look for it.
3.
I find that the different versions in English have
contradictory statements, and have either added or taken away parts. Because God promised to preserve His Word,
and He commanded for nothing to be added or taken away, I know that which ever version is found to have violated His commandments, CANNOT be His pure
Word. But in fact have sinned (by
disobeying His command to not add or take away), and therefore cannot be from
Him.
4.
I find that there are really only two
versions. Those that stem from the
Alexandrian manuscripts and those that stem from the Antiochian
manuscripts. One Bible in English comes
from the Antiochian. The KJV. All other versions (except for the Gideon
Bible, I think?) come from the Alexandrian.
So I’ve narrowed it down. One of
these groups has sinned by adding or taking away (or they BOTH have sinned by
adding or taking away).
At this point, my faith moves into logic. I believe by faith that God HAS preserved His
Word perfectly for me, and that it exists in my native language. Now I have to use reason and discernment to
find which it is.
5.
A. I find
that the Antiochian has been received by the church throughout the
generations. It comes from Antioch (the
start of the church) and is used by faithful Christians right through the
Reformation and the creation of the printing press, when it reaches its culmination
in the KJV.
B. I find that the Alexandrian has been
passed down from Alexandria Egypt during the time of Origen (a heretic), and
that it was during the time of a popular cult at the time, much like the JW
cult of today. It was rejected by the
early church and hidden away and preserved by the Roman Catholic
Institute. The antichrist herself and
the enemy of Biblical Christianity.
If this was the only piece of evidence, I would have to lean towards the KJV
based on this alone. But there is more.
6.
I find that the vast majority of manuscripts
found (over 99%) confirm and match the Antiochian manuscripts. While a very few manuscripts confirm the
Alexandrian and NONE of them match. They
contradict each other in numerous places.
7.
Now I actually look at the differences in the
versions. Remembering that adding or
taking away is SIN and therefore NOT the work of God, I have to ask myself which is more likely to be the work
of the devil:
A. To ADD the
blood of Jesus Christ to the Scriptures or to TAKE IT AWAY? Because
the KJV mentions the blood in many places where the other versions do not.
B. To ADD the title of “Lord” to
Jesus Christ or to TAKE it away? Because the KJV
mentions it in many places where the other versions do not.
C. To CLARIFY when
baptism is permitted, or to MUDDLE when it should be
done? Because Acts 8:36-38 is in the KJV but missing in many
versions.
D. To IDENTIFY the
fallen angel by name, or to REMOVE his name? Because the
KJV identifies him as lucifer in Isaiah 14, but the other versions remove his name and
sometimes even identify him as Jesus Christ (the Morning Star)!
E. To IDENTIFY who
antichrist is, or to REMOVE his identifying marks?
Because the KJV gives identifying marks in 1st John 4:3, while the other versions
remove the identifying marks.
F. Is
the mark of the beast IN the hand or ON the
hand? Pretty crucial. The KJV says IN, other versions say ON.
8.
Now I
move on to personal experience and testimony (which I can’t expect anyone else
to accept as convincing, and is certainly not authoritative, but it is my own personal experience and has thus
solidified my position). I was not
raised in the church. I had no knowledge
of any controversy regarding versions.
When I was first saved, I was given a NKJV and grew in sanctification
and wisdom through it. After a while, I
started using a KJV, for no particular reason at all. I used that for a long while. During this time, I was separated from
fellowship. I walked alone, trusting no-one,
convinced we were in the last days and that the church was full of wolves in sheeps
clothing. But I had GREAT time of fellowship
with the Lord and grew immensely in the faith.
After a while, I decided I wanted to try a different version. I saw no reason to be cautious, I simply
thought it would give me a deeper insight and a different way to think about
things. I think I switched to an NIV,
but I’m not sure.
Immediately, I went into a spiritual “dry-spell.” I went from having an extremely close and
personal walk, to feeling distant and separated from God. I had no idea why this was happening, but I
was desperate for the Lord to restore fellowship. After enduring through this for a while, I
came across a simple video where the man was explaining why he used the
KJV. I don’t recall what was said, but he
mentioned how the Word was alive. Something
clicked inside of me where I said, “If I alter the DNA of a living organism, it’s
not the same as it once was. So if I
alter the Words of the LIVING Bible, it’s not the same.” I still new nothing of the controversy, but I
decided to switch back to the KJV, simply as an effort to restore fellowship
with the Lord. I instantly felt reconnected!!! I made a decision right then and there that I
would never read anything else!
Based on all this, I believe whole heartedly that the KJV is the pure, preserved
and perfect Word of God in the English language. And I believe that by adding and taking away,
the other “versions” prove themselves to be in opposition to the commands of
God, and are therefore sinful and NOT the work of God. I find that it is the devil who has cast
doubt on God’s Word from the very beginning (“Hath God said?”), so it only
makes sense that he would continue his work in today’s society. Not only that, but the source of the other
versions is Rome. The antichrist
herself. It is enough for me to be
convinced.
Ecclesiastes 8:4 “Where the word of a king is, there
is power: and who may say unto him, What doest thou?”
